habitat for humanity
My brother and I were talking on the phone several years ago, and he was telling me about his successful installation of a new ceiling fan in his home, and he said, “I do ceiling fans”. As if to say that yesterday he didn’t do ceiling fans, but now he does ceiling fans.
I always think of this when I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and as of this weekend, I do siding.
Because of volunteering with Habitat in the past, I also do framing, roofing, painting, drywall, floors, and a lot of shoveling, moving, and raking piles of dirt from one spot to another.
I’d scheduled this day with Habitat for the Chix ministry, and all week there were cancellations. We ended up as a small, but mighty, team of four: Elizabeth, Mona, Suzy, and myself. And it was just the right team for the job. Pat, the job foreman, cut the siding while we hung it all, completing the north side of the house. It was a gorgeous day to work outside, and the company was perfect.
