The Justice League
Christmas with my nephew was a delight. He’s almost four years old, and his mantra was "Are there any more [gifts] for me?". The unbridled and completely natural greed is awesome in a toddler. I think the rest of us learn how to hide it well as we age. Anyway, the desired toys are action figures of The Justice League. And in the absence of the toys, we are The Justice League. My nephew is Superman, grandma is Wonder Woman, I am Aquaman. Together we can save the day, beat the bad guys, run fast, and fly through the air.
Who doesn’t want to save the day? To be part of the good, defeating the evil forces, triumphant in the end. To have a special power, something that sets us apart from everyone else and allows us to puff our chests in pride. I like being Aquaman; I can swim under water for hours, and I get to hang out with Superman and the Green Lantern. My alter ego has a pretty sweet gig, too. Interesting work, cool mission, fascinating friends, and none of them has the ego of Batman. He’s pretty full of himself.
